Frequently Asked Questions

Getting
Started

What is included in your price quote?
My quotes include the following:
  • Phone or in-person consultations
  • Preparation of a draft ceremony for your review
  • Revisions of the draft to meet your desires
  • Early arrival on the wedding day to prepare wedding documents, inspect venue and talk to your DJ, musicians, wedding coordinator, photographer, etc.
  • Finalization and mailing of your wedding license proof of marriage back to the court.
In short, this is everything you need from me to assure you of a perfect wedding ceremony conducted to your wishes. If you want to add a sand ceremony, unity candle, God’s Knot, or any other additional aspect of your ceremony, it is not a problem. You tell me what you want to add, I draft the words necessary to do it at the ceremony, and you provide whatever items or equipment is needed.
I want a wedding in Spanish.

I am bilingual. I am happy to create any ceremony you want in either English, Spanish, or both.

How do I guarantee you can do my ceremony?

The payment in full holds your date and I stop taking wedding requests from other couples. Fifty percent of this payment is not refundable because I stop accepting other couples on your date, and I start working on your ceremony immediately. If you change your mind or some other issue forces a cancellation I will refund 50% of the full payment you made. If for some reason there is any balance owed to me it is payable no later than two weeks before the wedding ceremony.

I suggest that you pay me using PayPal because it is instantaneous and assures that your wedding date is reserved immediately.

It is very simple to use PayPal and you do not need an account. Go to the “Payment” link at the top of this page, and follow the instructions.

I thank you very much for sharing your special day and entrusting it to me. I will do my best to justify your faith.

What is your quote based upon?

My quote is based on my initial estimate of what will be involved in preparing for, creating, and performing your wedding ceremony. This includes travel and preparation time. I think you will find my quote to be affordable.  I do not overcharge. I do this because I enjoy it, not because it is my retirement fund! I try to discourage couples from paying for extra services they do not need. But we will talk about that more if you are interested.

Can you do a very non-traditional and non-religious wedding?

The simple answer is YES. I am comfortable creating any ceremony you want. Religious, not religious, traditional, edgy, funny, formal, elegant, laid back, etc. Some couples want a ceremony that is only religious enough to satisfy their family. That is not hard to do at all.

Details

Will you write our vows?

About 50% of my couples want me to write their vows. The other half write their own. Either is fine with me and does not affect my quote. I am happy to write them for you, or give you help writing them.

When I interview you, I will get a sense of what type of vows you prefer and go from there.

We don't have a venue picked out, will you come to our home?

Absolutely. I have married many couples in their home, parks, courthouses, etc. I even married a couple in a plane once. Nothing is out of the question, I think . . .

Can we meet with you before hiring you?

Of course. This is probably the most important day of your life, and you need to be comfortable with me. I typically make appointments to meet couples at a mutually convenient coffee shop on weekend mornings.

How much do I have to pay to get started?

Miscellaneous

As a Wedding Officiant what is your biggest pet peeve"

I have two, unfortunately, and they are rather important. And they are both based on my constant efforts to get your job done right.

The first is couples who do not reply or acknowledge the messages I send them.

The second is couples who change the time of the wedding and do not ask me if I can accommodate the change.

I perform about 75 to 100 weddings each year. In order to do that many weddings, I have a system that I follow so that I do all your work as quickly and efficiently as possible. So, when I send off a question or any material to my couples it helps immensely if they reply back quickly. That way I know they know what I need to make their ceremony perfect, and I can move on to the next couple. Too often I email couples and get nothing back – that is frustrating. The second pet peeve is similarly based. If you tell me your wedding is at 5 pm I then plan my day around being at your wedding venue early to meet with you, to meet with your music people, to talk to your wedding coordinator [if you have one], and to finish your wedding license paperwork. I will also schedule other activities for other couples or for myself personally after or before your ceremony. If you change the time on me, it could be a major problem. Imagine how you would feel if I was late to your wedding! My telling you that another couple changed their time will not make it all better for you.
